Vulcan Memorabilia History Exhibit City Hall
Vulcan memorabilia is among the historical items on exhibit at City Hall from July to November.
Construction on Birmingham’s first municipal airport began after Charles Lindbergh visited the Tutwiler Hotel 1927, and Mountain Brook City Hall is now hosting historical memorabilia that marks the his statement.
A new installment of historical items from the Birmingham History Center was installed in City Hall’s exhibition case on July 6, four months after the initial installment of Irondale Furnace artifacts.
City Manager Sam Gaston said he has seen a lot of people stop to look at the historical exhibit case since it was installed.
Other items in the new display include:
- Samples from 69 bottlers who have produced in Jefferson County, mostly from 1901-1929. This includes current bottlers Coca Cola, Buffalo Rock and Grapico.
- Stained glass from Birmingham Terminal Station, a passenger train station downtown from 1909 to the 1950s
- A radiator cap from the Premocar, the only automobile ever produced in Birmingham.
- Vulcan statue memorabilia
- Victoria era bathing shoes
The collection from Birmingham History Center can be viewed whenever City Hall is open. New exhibits will continue to be installed every fourth months as a part of the center’s contract with the city.
