Mountain Brook police reported multiple drug-related incidents in the Aug. 11 community update, including two narcotics-related incidents.
On Aug. 9, police pulled over a vehicle for a traffic stop and found the driver in possession of pain pills, according to the update. On Aug. 10, officers spotted a suspicious vehicle on Orleans Road and found the people in the car in possession of narcotics, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to the report.
The report included two instances of drug paraphernalia, including a public works employee finding drug paraphernalia on the side of Northcote Drive on Aug. 4 and an individual found in possession of drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop on Aug. 7.
Two robberies were also reported, including one in which two individuals have been arrested.
One robbery was an armed car-jacking which occurred on Aug. 5 around 9:45 p.m. A woman returned to her apartment complex on Beverly Drive and was approached by two black males when she got out of her car. One of the suspects had a handgun, according to the update, and demanded the victim’s purse and car. On Aug. 9, police obtained warrants charging two teenage suspects with first degree robbery.
The suspects reportedly admitted following the victim home from the Southside area of Birmingham.
The other robbery occurred on Aug. 8. A woman who was loading her groceries at the Whole Foods in Cahaba Village Plaza was robbed at gunpoint by a black male, and her purse was taken.
Two car break-ins were reported, including an iPad which was taken from an unlocked vehicle between Aug. 3-5. Between Aug. 7-8, electronics and prescription medications were taken from a vehicle, according to the report, and there were no signs of forced entry.
On Aug. 10, an individual cashed a check for $1,380 at the Mountain Brook Village location of Iberia Bank, according to the update. After the check was cashed, the individual left the bank and it was later determined the check had been forged. The bank notified its Crestline Village branch, and the individual was arrested at the Crestline branch after an attempt to cash another check later that day.
Other reports included:
- A check was reportedly stolen from a mailbox on Woodclift Circle between Aug. 4-5. The incident was categorized as identity theft.
- Between May 1 and Aug. 7, a victim reported someone used his identity to establish a Verizon Wireless account.
- On Aug. 4, someone reportedly tried to open a Chase credit card account using a victim’s name.
- A white male reportedly entered a store on Aug. 7 on River Run Road on three occasions, stealing steaks on two of them.
- An employee in Brookwood Village reportedly only charged a customer for three of nine items they presented for purchase. The incident, categorized as theft of property, reportedly occurred on Aug. 6.
- Between Aug. 6-7, a parked vehicle was damaged with a rock.
- Between Aug. 8-9, a window on a vehicle was broken. The car was parked in the owner’s driveway at the time of the incident.
