As the LSU Tigers prepared to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide on Nov. 7, ESPN aired a segment on the life of LSU's biggest fan, Sid Ortis.
The video highlights Sid's family, his relationship with LSU coach Les Miles and his strength facing a diagnosis of osteosarcoma and his passing on Oct. 31.
Prior to the LSU-Alabama game, Sid's father Scott Ortis asked people to donate in his son's honor to pediatric cancer research at Children's of Alabama. Some have chosen to give a certain amount for every point LSU scores.
Open Hands Overflowing Hearts, a Birmingham pediatric cancer charity, set up its own fundraiser for Children's of Alabama in Sid's memory. As of this writing, they had raised nearly $16,000 of their $20,000 goal.
