English Village staple Vino's fifth anniversary party went to the dogs, and guests couldn't have been happier.
Vino celebrated its five-year mark while supporting the Greater Birmingham Humane Society with Pooches on the Patio, reserving its entire outdoor space for human and four-legged guests.
Special Events Coordinator Alison Moncrief said that GBHS is "near and dear" to the owners and staff of Vino, so when they decided to do something special to celebrate the anniversary, helping animals seemed like the perfect idea, especially since many guests already bring their dogs when the weather is nice.
"We try to give back to the community with several other charities, but we thought that doing something special for our fifth year, because we haven't actually celebrated an anniversary yet, that we would do something that could be associated with Vino,"
A portion of the evening's sales benefitted GBHS, and Moncrief said they were very excited to see so many guests and their furry friends enjoying the patio.
Guests could choose from Vino's ample wine list, or could purchase one of the evening's signature cocktails, a Pooch Potion martini or a Meow Mule.
In addition to fun for human guests, there were four special guests from GBHS looking for forever homes.
Courtney Underwood, the director of volunteers and community engagement for GBHS, said that the humane society is always glad to partner with local businesses and organizations.
"We want to get out as much as possible," she said, because the group's main mission is to get the pets adopted and educate the public about spay and neuter programs.
Though they were only able to bring four adoptable dogs to the event, Underwood said that those interested in adopting can always look online for adoptable pets, or stop by the shelter, which is open Tuesday through Sunday.
Guests also appeared to enjoy the event, as Moncrief said the patio was almost completely reserved for most of the evening.
She also said the Vino crew hopes to make Pooches on the Patio an annual event to support GBHS.
