Q: Please describe your area of expertise.
A: We are a primary care practice, which means we are usually the first stop for most medical problems; either helping with the problem directly or managing referrals to other medical specialists when needed. I focus on adult patients (18 and older) while my colleague, Dr. Katie Moore, is Family Medicine and sees children as well as adults.
Q: What type of services do you offer?
A: We offer annual exams, routine preventive care (immunizations, screenings), management of chronic medical problems such as diabetes, hypertension, migraines, as well as acute care/sick visits for new medical problems or illnesses. I have an interest in women’s health (non-obstetric) and am happy to perform a woman’s annual exam, refer for mammograms and bone density scans, as well as discuss hormone replacement therapy.
Q: What problems do you provide a solution to?
A: We focus on providing personal care to patients. It is important to us to communicate well with our patients and understand their priorities when it comes to their health in order for us to develop the best treatment decisions for each patient. Providing timely care is a priority, and we almost always work in sick visits the same day or the next day. Sometimes we hear patients complain about their inability to get a timely response from their physician’s practice regarding a question, which is why we use a patient portal that allows our patients to message their provider directly, making it quicker to get an answer to their question. Of course, for those not interested in an online platform, we will call.
Q: Please describe your educational and experiential background.
A: I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and completed my medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 2016. I completed my residency in the Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Program for Internal Medicine at UAB and also served my fourth year as a Chief Medical Resident. I received training in both hospital and outpatient medicine and have enjoyed the transition to a full focus on outpatient medicine.
Q: How have you and/or your staff adjusted your operations and/or services to comply with COVID-19 safety measures?
A: Our practice is COVID-19 compliant. For our well patients, we ask them to call upon arrival and then to wait in their car until we are ready to see them which avoids multiple patients sitting in the waiting room. We screen every patient for fever and possible COVID-19 symptoms before seeing them in office. Every staff member and patient is wearing a mask at all times. Patient exam rooms and shared surfaces are wiped down between each patient. For our sick patients with symptoms possibly consistent with COVID-19, we ask them to drive around to our back entrance for COVID-19 swabbing, for which they remain in their car.
Q: What do you most want potential patients to know about you and your practice?
A: I chose Internal Medicine as my specialty because it is a profession where I am trained to handle the broad and comprehensive spectrum of illnesses that affect adults across different organ systems. I love thinking about how problems are interconnected in the body. Myself and the office staff are passionate about providing patient care and serving each patient in their place of need.
