At Virginia Samford Theatre's summer camps, your child will become more confident, well spoken and think independently.
The campers can take classes in theatre with focuses on singing, musical theatre and dancing. There are also classes in playwriting, Shakespeare, stage combat, costume design and set design.
"This is a great way to get introduced to musical theatre," said Jennifer Spiegelman, the Education Director of VST. "Their audience is their peers. The kids can explore the process of creating the scenes.
There's no pressure. It's a fun introduction into musical theatre to dip their toes into it and see if it is something they want to continue pursuing."
There are two camp levels. For those just starting out in theatre, the beginner level is a great way to get an introduction. There's also an intermediate level for those who have participated in musical theatre before.
"If there is something specific that the kids want to focus on, we'll do that," Spiegelman said. "We try to pick things they are focused on to keep them engaged."
All of the instructors have musical theatre background or are professionals in theatre.
The VST STARS program is very proud of all our current and former students who have excelled in their theatre passions - especially Miss America's Outstanding Teen, Marcelle LeBlanc, and Miss Jefferson County's Outstanding Teen, Anna Bella Foster. Marcelle performed the leading role in the VST mainstage production of "Annie" and Anna Bella starred in "Frozen Jr."
