Mountain Brook police are asking residents for help identifying two female suspects.
The women were reportedly involved in two property thefts on Aug. 17, according to the Aug. 18 Mountain Brook Police Department community update.
Aug. 17 at 3:50 p.m. two heavyset black women reportedly entered a shop on Culver Road, picked out several items and brought them to the counter to purchase. As the clerk was ringing up the items, one of the women reportedly entered the store’s back room. The clerk then checked and found her wallet had been removed from her purse.
“The two suspects realized she knew what they had done and fled, dropping the wallet,” the update said.
The two suspects left in a blue Kia Soul, which had been parked on Cahaba Road.
About 30 minutes earlier, the two women reportedly went into another store on Montevallo Road, used the same technique and stole credit cards and a license from employees' purses.
Police request that anyone who owns a shop in Mountain Brook Village and has video of the suspects or anyone in Mountain Brook Village who has information contact Det. Sgt. Pollard at 802-3856.
Other property thefts in the update included a handgun that was stolen from a River Oaks Lane residence between Aug. 10 and 11, a license plate that was stolen off of a vehicle on Cherokee Road, a Big Green Egg grill that was stolen from behind a residence off of Williamsburg Circle on Aug. 16 and two ladders that were stolen fro ma construction site on Halbrook Lane between Aug. 8 and 17.
On Aug. 16, police reported a white male attempted to break into a business and a vehicle in that business’s parking lot. The offender has been identified, according to police.
Two drug-related instances were reported, including marijuana that was found following a traffic stop. It was found in the vehicle while the car was being impounded on Aug, 13, according to the report. Police also reported finding a bag containing drug paraphernalia in the parking lot of Cahaba Village Plaza on Aug. 13.
Other reports included two hit and runs. One reportedly occurred on Aug. 12, when a red SUV hit a parked car on Bethune Drive and fled the scene. The other reportedly occurred in Cahaba Village Plaza on Aug. 16, and an unknown vehicle hit a parked vehicle and left.
Police also reported between July 20 and Aug. 8, someone used the identity of a victim to open three accounts at Navy Federal Credit Union.
