Power outages
Traffic was flowing slowly near the Birmingham Zoo when the red lights at Cahaba Road and Culver Road were knocked out after storms Tuesday night.
Some Mountain Brook residents are still waiting for the lights to come back on in the wake of Tuesday night's storms.
Alabama Power crews have been working to restore electricity around the metro area with help from Georgia Power, Mississippi Power and Gulf Power employees. According to a release on the Alabama News Center, about 3,400 people in Birmingham are still without power. Among the hardest hit areas are Mountain Brook, Homewood, Vestavia Hills, Clairmont and Southside.
Homes and businesses in parts of Crestline, Mountain Brook Village, Cherokee Bend and the area near Mountain Brook Country Club are waiting on electricity, but Alabama Power expects all repairs to be made by 10 p.m. tonight.
