Mountain Brook Police Department detectives have identified suspects in a residential burglary, according to a MBPD community update.
The burglary is said to have occurred on Aug. 19 at a home off of Richmar Drive. The suspects reportedly forced entry into the residence, and jewelry and electronics were stolen. Some of the property has since been recovered, according to the update, and warrants are pending.
Also in the community update, there were multiple reports of property theft. On Aug. 1, a known offender reportedly entered a store on Culver Road and stole a 12-pack of Coke Zero.
On Aug. 22, a black male entered a store in Brookwood Village and shoplifted around $1,600 worth of merchandise, according to the update. Detectives located and arrested this individual on Aug. 23.
Police also reported two women entered a store on Culver Road, distracted the clerk and stole her license and credit card on Aug. 17. The license and credit card were reportedly stolen by the same individuals involved in two other thefts which occurred on Aug. 17. The clerk in this incident did not realize her property was stolen at the time, according to the update.
An incident of receiving stolen property was also reported in the update. On Aug. 18, officers stopped a Jeep Grand Cherokee which didn’t have a license plate. Upon running the vehicle identification number, officers realized the car was stolen from a car dealership in Hoover. The update states the driver was arrested and confessed to stealing the vehicle. A warrant for first-degree theft was obtained.
Other incidents in the update included:
- Possession of a forged instrument. An individual presented a check for deposit in Boise, Idaho using a City of Mountain Brook account number. This occurred between Aug. 17 and 22 and has been referred to authorities in Idaho.
- A victim reported she was being extorted for a large sum of money. The suspect reportedly told the victim she had to pay the amount to prevent them from releasing information.
- Police arrested an individual for DUI after he hit another vehicle on Overton Road near Crosshaven Drive. After his car was impounded, officers found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.
