Andreas Rauterkus, Ph.D., an Associate Professor in Accounting and Finance at the UAB Collat School of Business, will host a presentation regarding the global financial system on Thursday, Jan. 7 at the Emmet O’Neal Library.
Rauterkus’ talk, which will begin at 6:30 p.m., will be the third of several presentations as a part of "$mart Directions @ Emmet O’Neal Library," a series of seminar-style programs on personal finance and investing. The program is made possible by a grant from the FINRA Investor Education Foundation through Smart investing@your library®, a partnership with the American Library Association.
This session of the seminar series will help attendees understand exchange rates, foreign currency, and how foreign markets affect money here in the United States.
The doors to the Library Meeting Room at Emmet O’Neal Library will open at 6 p.m. and a light meal will be served. Rauterkus will begin his talk at 6:30 p.m. The series will be recorded and available through the Emmet O’Neal library’s website or on DVD for those that are unable to attend the presentation.
Next week, Rauterkas will lead a roundtable discussion regarding demystifying personal finance for those in their 20s and 30s. This ‘Table Talk’ discussion will take place on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at La Paz restaurant in Crestline Village.
Rauterkus’ talk will be the first discussion of many series about defeating debt. This program is also made possible by a grant from the FINRA Investor Education Foundation through Smart investing@your library®, a partnership with the American Library Association. About Dr. Rauterkas
Dr. Rauterkas earned his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Cincinnati. He also holds a M.B.A. from East Carolina University and an undergraduate/graduate degree in Finance and Banking from J.W. Goethe University in his native Frankfurt/Main, Germany. Dr. Rauterkus spent three years as a Finance instructor at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, he taught at Siena College in Loudonville, NY and is currently an assistant professor of finance at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
His research interests are in financial institutions and corporate governance with an emphasis on conflict of interest situations in international banking. Further, Dr. Rauterkus possesses comparative knowledge of international banking systems and current trends especially with respect to European Union countries. Most recently, Dr. Rauterkus focused his research on small business lending, the impact of lender distance on loan performance and the role of credit unions.
