Mountain Brook Basketball
Mountain Brook's Carlee Dawkins (20) is shown in a game against Spain Park earlier this season.
High school basketball seasons come down to one game when the area tournaments roll around.
Mountain Brook's boys and girls basketball teams will compete in the Class 7A, Area 6 basketball tournaments this week.
The Lady Spartans were a perfect 6-0 in area play, and will be the top seed and host of the tournament.
They will play No. 4 Vestavia Hills on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. The winner of that game will face either Hewitt-Trussville or Spain Park in the championship on Friday at 7 p.m.
The boys will travel to Spain Park, as the Spartans lost a coin toss with the Jags for the right to host the tournament. Mountain Brook will take on No. 3 Vestavia Hills on Thursday at 6 p.m.If they win, Hewitt-Trussville or the Jags will await, on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
In high school basketball, teams qualify for the postseason by finishing in the top two of their respective area tournaments. So, the formula is simple. Win the first game of the area tournament, and the Spartans are in the playoffs. Lose, and the season is over.
