A group of Mountain Brook Junior High’s wrestling team earned enough points and had strong enough records this season to earn an invitation to the Alabama Wrestling Organization’s Metro South two-day tournament held in January.
The students, including Jack Higgins, Thomas Latimer, Mason Brint, William Henderson and Austin de la Torre had strong showings at the event. Under head coach Derek Jones, who is in his second year of coaching at MBJH, four students earned recognition during the finals held Jan. 25.
Among those recognized in their own weight class were:
- Higgins - 2nd Place in the 155 lb. weight class
- Henderson - 3rd Place in the 110 lb. weight class
- Latimer - 3rd Place in the 105 lb. weight class
- Brint - 4th Place in the 175 lb. weight class
A total of 13 schools participated in the tournament, making up 14 weight classes per school.
