The Mountain Brook Board of Education has approved the appointment of Benny Eaves to serve as athletic director for Mountain Brook Schools. Eaves succeeds the long-serving Terry Cooper, who retired in October, and has been employed at Mountain Brook High School since 2007.
Eaves received his Bachelor of Science from the University of North Alabama, and his Master of Education at Auburn. He previously taught and coached at Marion Military Institute; Simmons Middle School, where he was department head; and Hoover High School before joining Mountain Brook High School in 2007.
At MBHS, Eaves serves as department head and has served as head coach for varsity boys golf, head coach for ninth grade boys basketball, head coach for junior varsity boys basketball, and assistant coach for varsity boys basketball. He has been head coach for ninth grade football and has assisted coaching for varsity football. His awards and honors include ASAHPERD Coach of the Year and Presidential Awards, Metro South Coach of the Year and Tuscaloosa News Coach of the Year.
"Benny Eaves has the experience, the intelligence and the people skills that are an essential part of being the athletic director for our highly successful athletic program," said Superintendent Dicky Barlow. "He is highly respected by our coaches and looks forward to building relationships with the Mountain Brook community as athletic director. We are excited to have him move into this critical role."
