Mountain Brook’s Jack Kline grabs a rebound in the Class 7A state championship game against Hoover. Kline is a four-year member of the varsity team and is a University of Alabama-Huntsville commit.
Mountain Brook had no issues in its game pushed from Friday to Saturday, as the Spartans won 67-32 over Hewitt-Trussville in the final area contest of the regular season.
Jack Kline reached a milestone for the second straight game, as he eclipsed 700 career rebounds with four boards on the day to go along with eight points.
Freshman phenom Trendon Watford was the only Spartan in double figures, as he scored 18 on 6-of-9 shooting -- 4-5 from three-point range. He also pulled down six boards, dished out three assists, and blocked two shots.
Brian Schmidt hit all four of his shot attempts for eight points. Joe Donald scored seven and Spencer King added six.
Damon Harper paced the Huskies with 11 points. Matt Hicks scored nine. Harrison Stanley and Josh Monski each scored five, with Stanley converting the only three-pointer of the game for Hewitt-Trussville.
With the win, Mountain Brook improves its record to 17-5, 5-1 in Class 7A, Area 6, and clinches at least a share of the area title, depending on Spain Park's result on Monday.
The game was played on Saturday afternoon, as it was rescheduled from Friday night due to inclement weather.
The Spartans' next scheduled game is Tuesday, as they take to the road to face Madison Academy at UAH.
