The No. 1-ranked Mountain Brook High School Varsity Basketball team (31-3) defeated No. 6 Lee-Huntsville (25-5) Tuesday in the AHSAA basketball Northeast Regional at Jacksonville State University. The final score was 72-60.
Last year in the same regional match up Mountain Brook won the region title 68-66 against Lee-Huntsville on its way to winning the state championship.
Next up, the team will play the Grissom-Woodlawn winner for the region title Friday at 10:40 a.m.
Last Friday, the Spartans defeated Gardendale by 27 points in the sub-regional game. The final score was 73-46.
The state finals are scheduled for Feb. 25-March 1.
