Otey's Tavern takes Silver Award in Retailer of the Year

Will Haver, the owner of Otey's Tavern, has a new award to mark the 25th year of being in business.

The Alabama Retail Association held its annual awards luncheon Oct. 6 to honor the retailers across the state who were named Retailers of the Year. Nominees for the award must have been in business for at least five years and are divided into four categories based on their yearly revenue.

Otey's Tavern received the Silver Award in the $1-5 million revenue category. Haver said it was "a team award" based on the great work of all Otey's employees.

“It was an honor even to be nominated, but to take silver we were elated," Haver said.

Suzan Doidge of the Mountain Brook Chamber of Commerce nominated Otey's. McAleer's Office Furniture in Mobile took the Gold Award and Silvertron Cafe in Birmingham took the Bronze Award in that category.

“You start looking at the businesses in the category you’re in and you wonder how you got there,” Haver said. "[I] “didn’t see it coming but I’m so proud of our team and I hope Otey’s lasts another 25 years.”
