After a year of construction, B.L. Harbert held a ribbon-cutting for The Manning condominium complex on June 22. The 14-unit luxury complex has been entirely sold since before construction even began, and the new homeowners will begin moving in between early to mid-July.

The ribbon cutting included Mayor Terry Oden, City Manager Sam Gaston and employees from Harbert and the firms involved in the construction, such as Barrett Architecture Studio and Schoel Engineering.

Ron Durham, the CEO of developer Durham & Associates, said The Manning was a "long time in the making." Property owner Margi Ingram first began working toward the idea about 20 years ago.

"Buildings demonstrate that people have put down roots," said Durham before the ribbon was cut.

Project Manager Mark Wills said the units range from a 1,400-square-foot one bedroom condo up to a three-bedroom condo that is about 3,000 square feet. Prices ranged from the mid-$700,000s to above $1 million.

Since the owners have been involved since before the project broke ground, Wills said they got to customize their units entirely to their liking. This included layout, light switch placement, fixtures and other details. Some condo owners chose open porches, some chose to screen them in and one chose to build a sunroom instead, Wills said.

"There's nothing cookie cutter about it," Wills said.

The Manning, located at 2400 Cahaba Road, also includes a 28-car garage, guest parking and a gated, secure entry.
