Council to consider funding Leadership Mountain Brook projects

On Monday, May 13, the Mountain Brook City Council convened for the first time in its new chambers, now located in the recently completed Mountain Brook City Complex in Crestline Village. For their first task in their new seats, Council members listened to final presentations from members of Leadership Mountain Brook.

Leadership students presented the Council with three projects they developed over the semester; projects they believe will better their community. These were: installation of a flashing warning signal at the intersection of Cherokee and Old Leeds Roads; conversion of garbage receptacles in the Villages to allow residents the option to recycle; and installation of a community information board in Crestline Village.

Students informed the council of each project’s anticipated cost and of steps they’d taken to secure funding. Leadership students had yet to hear back about grants they applied for before the meeting, meaning the Council would likely need to provide funding to implement the projects.

Although Council members indicated some concerns, at the meeting’s close several members voiced they were impressed with the thoroughness of the projects and supported the ideas. The Council agreed to consider funding all three in the FY 2014 Budget.
