Crestline Shell to potentially close

The Crestline Shell station might be gone in a few months.

“As of today, we will be closing unless our financial situation changes,” said dealer Jack King, who has run the store for the past 36 years.

King currently leases the property from McPherson Oil Products, who King said sent him legal notification on May 29 stating that he must purchase the property by Sept. 3 in order to remain in business.

King said it is his understanding that McPherson had an offer to purchase on the property and is giving him the first right to buy it. He also said he does not know who the potential buyer is.

King believes that his is the only full-service station —versus a convenience store —owned by McPherson.

 “We've been here a long time, and I think we have served the community well,” he said. “Unfortunately, I am not financially in a situation where I can buy the property. I am hoping something works out.”
