CrossFit center approved for former Little Hardware space
A new CrossFit fitness center is coming to Little Hardware’s former Mountain Brook Village location.
The city council approved a conditional use application for the space at 2703 Culver Road at its Jan. 12 meeting.
Rodney Fulmer will operate the business, which hosts five to eight people at a time during peak hours in the early morning (6 a.m.-noon on weekdays) and late afternoon (4-8 p.m. on weekdays).
Fulmer previously had a CrossFit location in downtown Birmingham and is wanting to move it closer to his Mountain Brook clients.
The space is located adjacent to the Rite Aid whose lease lasts through 2019 despite Lane Parke development plans that call for demolishing the part of the shopping center in the relative future. Fulmer said he is at the mercy of Rite Aid’s decision but that if they opt out before 2019 he could receive a six-month notice to move.
Also at the meeting the council:
- Authorized an agreement regarding the new Piggly Wiggly to be built in Crestline Village. The Notice of Assignment document confirms the city’s Revenue Sharing and Incentive Agreement with the store’s owners, Ajlouny Investments, LLC, which the city approved Dec. 16, as collateral for its Iberia Bank loan.
- Approved a building code request from Dowd and Susan Ritter. They are asking for a waiver of the 2012 International Residential Code for their residence under construction at 405 Club Place. This would allow them to build an exit from their basement
- Presented a resolution to Patrick B. Davis Jr. thanking him for his 13 years of service on the Mountain Brook Planning Commission.
- Set a public hearing for Feb. 9 regarding an ordinance adopting the 2015 International Building Code, 2015 International Residential Code, 2015 International Fuel Gas Code, 2015 International Mechanical Code, 2015 International Plumbing Code, the 2015 International Fire Code. All would be effective April 1 if approved.
- Awarded the Fire Department uniform bid for pricing guaranteed for one year with up to two annual renewals.
- Approved $10,000 in funding for All In Mountain Brook to promote educational programs, speakers, communications and related activities to raise community awareness regarding substance use and abuse, high risk behavior, preventable accidents, and mental health issue.
- Approved an agreement with the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority (MAX) for public transportation services for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2015.
- Amended the Chapter 14 of the City Code with respect to storm water plans review fees and storm water permit fees.
The next council meeting is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber of City Hall at 56 Church Street.
