Emmet O’Neal Library will host an assortment of holiday-inspired and educational programs in the next few months, beginning with a Friends of the Library Book Sale and Holiday Fun Day on Tuesday, Dec. 1.

The book sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guests are invited to browse through a selection of gifts for book lovers while enjoying hot cocoa and holiday movies. Coloring sheets, for art enthusiasts of all ages, will also be available and can be submitted for a chance to win a Village Gold card.

A follow-up $mart Directions presentation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 3.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. for the “Understanding the Stock Market” lecture led by Andreas Rauterkus, Ph.D., an Associate Professor in Accounting and Business at the UAB Collat School of Business. According to the Emmet O’Neal website, the program will help attendees understand their rights as both an investor and a shareholder. Topics to be discussed include when to invest in the stock market yourself versus when to let an industry professional handle it for you.

This will be the second $mart Directions @ Emmet O’Neal Library seminar style program, made possible by a grant from the FINRA Investor Education Foundation through Smart investing@your library®, a partnership with the American Library Association.

In January, Standing Room Only will present I ♥ 90s Music Trivia. The 21-and-older event will be held Friday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. Interested guests are asked to register their teams of 1-4 people by sending an email to amandaw@bham.lib.al.us
