Be sure to leave fireworks to the professionals this New Year’s Eve.

Sec. 34-4 of the Mountain Brook Code of Ordinances prohibits pyrotechnics, defined as any squib, rocket, firecracker, Roman candle, fire balloon, signal lights, railroad torpedo, flashlight composition, fireworks or other devices or compositions used to obtain visible or audible pyrotechnic display, except sparklers.

Under the code, to person shall “have, keep, store, use, manufacture, sell or handle any pyrotechnics.”

Exceptions for national or community celebrations and special events can be granted, but only with a permit.
