Hundreds gather at Crestline Field to pray for Sid Ortis

Around 200 people, predominately Mountain Brook High School students, gathered at Crestline Field for a prayer rally for Sid Ortis today at noon.

The rally was organized by friends of Ortis after seeing a Facebook post last night by Sid's mother stating that the family had been told that Sid may not be able to leave the hospital.

Donna Greene said that she was asked late last night via text message to lead prayer and song at the rally.

"That's the amazing thing about this community. Spiritual roots run so deep. When bad things happen, people say 'let's pray,'' Greene said.

Mary Carrington Gullage said that when she saw the post, she gathered with friends at Church Street Coffee and Books. They decided to hold the prayer rally and begin to spread the word.

Several in attendance took the microphone and shared stories of how Ortis' journey had touched them.

Greene shared a sentiment that was echoed by others who spoke. Greene said  "We pray for Sid and we know that he will be healed, either on this earth or in heaven."
