Identity, property thefts reported in MBPD community update

Mountain Brook Police reported multiple thefts, including property, identity and medication thefts, in the July 7 community update.

Between June 22 and 26, cash and prescription drugs were reportedly taken from a home on Springhill Road. Police reported this as a theft and as a property theft in the community update.

Another property theft reportedly occurred between May 25 and June 30. In this instance, cash and jewelry were reportedly stolen from a residence on Overton Road.

Three instances of identity theft were also reported. One victim reported on June 16, someone tried to open a line of credit and enter a change of address for them. Another victim reported that between June 27 and 30, his debit card was used to make unauthorized transactions. A third victim reported their debit card number was used without authorization between June 30 and July 5.

Two hit and runs reportedly occurred early this month, with a Jeep Wrangler hitting a parked car at Cahaba Village Plaza and fleeing the scene on July 1 and an unknown car hitting a parked car in Church Street and leaving the scene on June 2, according to the update.

A third hit and run was reported on June 5, after a teal and white, older model Ford truck struck a mirror on another vehicle that was parked on the side of Montevallo Road. The Ford then fled the scene without stopping, according to the update.

Police also reported three drug-related incidents in the update. On July 1, officers pulled over a person on U.S. 280 for a traffic violation and reportedly found illegal narcotics in that person’s possession.

On July 5, officers stopped a driver for a traffic violation and found marijuana in their possession. On July 7, officers found another driver in possession of marijuana after pulling them over for a traffic violation.
