Junior League collects diapers, baby supplies at Western

The Junior League of Birmingham is hoping to help parents in need by supplying diapers and supplies many may be living without.

The League is launching a new program, a Diaper Bank, which will provide diapers and other infant supplies to the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama.

The group hosted an event Monday that is part of the awareness week spearheaded by the National Diaper Bank Network, which is attempting to raise awareness to the fact that one in three mothers in the United States struggles with providing diapers for her child.

“There are many mothers across the Birmingham-Metro area that are unable to go to work or school because they don’t have diapers to send with their children to go to daycare," League president Lauren Roberts said.

"It is a cycle that we are trying to assist right here in Birmingham.”

There was a drop-off bin for diapers and supplies at the Western Supermarket at 2717 Culver Road from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

The group is also encouraging the use of #DiaperNeed on social media to promote the new initiative.
