The Klaas Kids Foundation will host a child safety event Sunday, Dec. 6 at the Birmingham Zoo’s Junior League of Birmingham – Hugh Kaul Children’s Zoo entrance from noon until 4 p.m.

Volunteers from Klaas Kids Foundation, a non-profit, will be on hand to fingerprint, photograph your child and give out DNA kits to take home free of charge. Founder Marc Klaas will be the keynote speaker and will discuss how to keep children safe.

Klaas established the foundation in 1994 in honor of his daughter, 12-year-old Polly Hannah, who was kidnapped and murdered. According to a news release about the event, Klaas wanted to create a legacy in her name that would be protective of children for generations to come.

The Foundation’s mission, according to the release, is to stop crimes against children. A silent auction to benefit Klaas Kids Foundation will also be held during the December event. All donations are tax deductible.

Birmingham Zoo entrance rates will still apply and will not be considered a donation.
