Library adds a storytime for preschoolers

The Emmet O’Neal Library Children’s Department is adding a special storytime for children ages three to five and their caregivers.

Residents who who attend other storytimes have requested a program for their pre-kindergartners, and so the the library is starting Movers & Makers on Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m. The library’s children’s department also offers storytimes and programs for all children from birth to sixth grade, including age-specific events for 0-3 years and kindergarten to sixth grade and all-ages events geared toward the preschool set.

Merideth Stackpole, the creator and facilitator of Movers & Makers, describes the program as a time for adults to participate with their kids in themed stories and activities that build cooperation, pre-literacy skills and school readiness. She emphasizes the importance of having children’s caregivers involved in the moving and making.

“Movers & Makers is intended to be a new opportunity for kids and their caregivers to learn and play through active together time,” Stackpole said. “It is designed around a do-and-make model of storytime.”

Themes coming up in September include “Mix It Up,” “Squeaky Clean” and “Tape Town.”

Movers & Makers begins on Wednesday, Sept. 2.  Those who wish to come are asked to pre-register online at eolib.org.
