MBPD arrests suspect in two burglaries, two thefts in Crestline

Mountain Brook Police Department detectives recently arrested and charged James Arthur Breedlove with two burglaries and two thefts, according to the MBPD June 16 community update.

The first burglary reportedly occurred in mid-March and resulted in warrants for third degree burglary and a first degree theft of property against Breedlove, and the second burglary reportedly occurred in early June. Warrants for third degree burglary and third degree theft of property were taken out in connection to that burglary, according to police. Breedlove was booked into Jefferson County Jail on June 10 around 2:48 p.m., according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office inmate search. His bond was set at $40,000.

Police also reported a local business received a fraudulent email. The head of the business’s accounting department reportedly received an email directing him to pay over $9,000 to a specified bank account. The email appeared to be from the employee’s boss, according to police, but after he contacted his boss, he discovered the boss did not send the email. This was categorized by police as an attempt to defraud.

Two instances of identity theft were also included in the community update. Between April 22 and May 31, a victim reported his credit card had been used for several unauthorized charges by a known individual. On June 10, another victim reported unauthorized transactions were made on their debit card.

On June 9, a fraudulent check was used to pay for merchandise in the 3800 block of Glencoe Drive, and between June 3 and 13, four checks were reportedly stolen from a business in the 10 block of Office Park Circle. The theft was discovered after three of those four checks had been cashed, according to police.

Two hit and runs were reported in this week’s community update. One incident occurred in the 3900 block of Montclair Road. A vehicle was reportedly struck in a parking lot and the offender left the scene. The other incident occurred on Oak Street; a parked vehicle was struck by an unknown car.

On June 6, police report cash was stolen from a vending machine in the 2700 block of U.S. 280. This incident was reported as a property theft.

Police also reported a weapons charge. On June 14, police had pulled over a driver and found the driver did not have a license. Police impounded the vehicle and found there was a handgun in the car, and the driver did not have a permit.
