A minor was arrested Thursday following a traffic stop on S. Brookwood Road at Overton Road, according to the Mountain Brook Police Department community update.

On Aug. 4, police stopped the vehicle and reportedly saw alcoholic beverages in plain sight. After a search of the car, more alcohol and drug paraphernalia was found. The minor, also the vehicle owner according to the update, was arrested.

The morning of Wednesday, Aug. 3, MBPD notified the community via Facebook that they were aware of a possible “underage drinking party” that night.

“We have been made aware of a possible underage drinking party at the Pines tonight. We have notified Birmingham PD and they will be patrolling that area tonight,” the Facebook post said. “We will be adding additional patrols looking for drunk drivers.”

In previous community updates, police reported responding to house parties on July 17 and July 8. At both parties, minors reportedly were found in possession of alcohol.

This week’s community update also included multiple reports of identity theft.

On May 28, more than $12,000 in unauthorized charges were made on a victim’s Visa card. Another victim reported two credit card accounts were opened using their identity. The third report occurred on July 27, and four credit cards reportedly were stolen from a purse while the owner ate breakfast. Two of those cards were used to make unauthorized transactions in Trussville.

Police also reported three instances of property theft, including a bucket of screws and bolts taken from a residence on Montevallo Road between July 29 and Aug. 1, a cell phone stolen from Mountain Brook High School between June 14 and 21 and an individual putting seven Corona light 12-packs into a shopping cart and walking out without paying.

On Aug. 1, police reported an instance of obstructing justice. An officer was dispatched to Birmingham to pick up someone with an outstanding warrant, according to the report, and the individual gave a name and date of birth that matched the warrant. Once back at the jail, however, officers reportedly discovered his photo did not match, and the defendant admitted he used his brother’s information to avoid an outstanding warrant.

Police also reported a hit and run on Euclid Avenue which occurred between Aug. 1 and 2 and four car break-ins in the update. The four car break-ins reportedly occurred between Aug. 2 and 3 at the Hampton Inn. A projector and peripheral equipment were stolen from one of the cars.
