Mountain Brook PD community update: May 5

Mountain Brook police reported two drug-related crimes in this week’s community update.

On April 28, police reported a defendant who was arrested on outstanding warrants was also found in possession of narcotics. Also on April 28, another individual arrested on an outstanding warrant was found in possession of marijuana, according to the community update.

Two hit and runs were reported in the community update. On April 30, a Jeep Grand Cherokee reportedly hit a BMW in the 2700 block of Cahaba Road. The Jeep then left the scene, according to the update. On May 4, a small black car leaving Bromberg’s reportedly struck another car and left the scene.

Two instances of criminal mischief were also reported. Between April 29 and April 30, someone reportedly used a brick to break a window on a house in the 10 block of Ridge Drive.

The other report of criminal mischief was after a resident from the 2300 block of Peacock Lane reported his mailbox was damaged between May 3 and May 4.

On April 28, a known individual reportedly threatened another person in the 10 block of Office Park Circle. This was reported as an instance of harassment in the community update.

Police reported a weapons charge against an individual on Hoyt Lane. On May 4, the individual was arrested on outstanding warrants and found to be in possession of a pistol without a permit, according to police.

There were also two instances of possession of a forged instrument in the update. On May 2, someone reportedly presented and attempted to cash a forged check in the 800 block of Shades Creek Parkway. On April 29, another individual cashed a forged check in the 90 block of Euclid Avenue. This incident was categorized as possession of a forged instrument and theft.

One victim reported that between Oct. 28, 2015 and Feb. 20, someone used his identity to take out a payday loan in South Dakota. Along with this report of identity theft, police reminded community members that the Federal Trade Commission has created identitytheft.gov, a website to help victims of identity theft with recovery and restoration. The website also has tips for preventing identity theft.
