With the publicity and issues involved with this year's national campaign, it should come as no surprise that voters flocked to their polling stations throughout the day on Nov. 8.

Some voters within Mountain Brook mentioned that they were "in and out" of the polls within 30 minutes, but others walked up to City Hall to find the line out the door. Just before lunchtime, many commented on the length of the wait.

"It was like a mob scene inside," said Jane VanEaton, who waited a half an hour to complete her voting. She continued to explain that once inside, there were people everywhere casting their ballots. Another voters commented that he had never seen a line similar to that in Crestline.

While residents may be out exercising their civic duty to vote for their choice of presidential nominee, Alabama voters are also able to cast their ballot for the congressional races and state-wide amendments.

Currently affecting the Mountain Brook area is the congressional race for District 6 between republican Gary Palmer and democrat David Putnam. Palmer is the incumbent for this position after having been voted into the 114th Congress in 2014, and voters seemed supportive of him noting that he is knowledgeable and shares similar morals.

Also on the ballots are a list of state amendments, specifically Amendment 14. Designed to correct a "procedural inconsistency," the amendment would grandfather in over 650 laws that have been passed since the mid-1980s.

Voter Marleigh Campbell mentioned that through the amendment, the voices of the community are limited. "You can't just grandfather those things [laws] in," she said.

Other voters held different opinions. Although he found the amendment to be slightly confusing, Billy West decided that in the end, it would create less of a burden on the state government and hopefully "clean up some of the mess." Sam Farlow held a similar idea, noting that "anything simplifying the process would be better."
