Mountain-climbing speaker to present parenting program

by

John Beede is currently on a quest to climb the tallest mountain on each continent. In between, he tells stories about getting stuck on a slab of ice sliding towards the edge of a 1,500-foot cliff, nearly falling 300 feet while rock climbing and being struck by lightning.

Hearing them struck a chord with several Mountain Brook High School SGA leaders and staff members when Beede spoke this summer at a conference they attended. He was not the ordinary assembly speaker, they thought.

Now new community organization All In Mountain Brook is bringing Beede to speak at MBHS as its first event. Beede will present a parenting program on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the school’s Fine Arts Center. His talk is entitled “Climb On! How to Help Your Children Be Their Best.”

Earlier that day Beede will speak at assemblies at MBHS at 8:15 a.m. as well as Mountain Brook Junior High at 10:15 a.m.

All In Mountain Brook organized this summer as a community-wide group addressing a wide set of issues affecting local youth. To learn more about All In, visit allinmountainbrook.org.
