Municipal complex formalities approved, other notes from council meeting

Mountain Brook City Council approved a variety of municipal agreements at its Oct. 8 meeting.

Municipal Complex formalities. The council approved to amend the agreement with Brasfield & Gorrie to reflect changes in the price of materials for the new Municipal Complex. Brasfield & Gorrie took over the project in August. The building is scheduled to be completed by April 2013. An agreement with Alabama Power was also approved to install power lines in the alley behind the Municipal Complex.

New fire station roof. A contract was approved with Davis S. White Roofing & Supply Co. to replace the roof at Fire Station 3. The project should begin by late October, according to City Clerk and CFO Steven Boone.

Annual contractual agreements. Agreements with various local organizations were approved whereby they provide services to residents and are certified eligible to receive funding from the city. Those approved were Symphonic Association, Birmingham Botanical Society, Birmingham Museum of Art, Alabama Veterans’ Memorial Foundation, Jefferson County Historical Commission, Exceptional Foundation, Birmingham Zoo, and Mountain Brook Chamber of Commerce.

New council term. The Council will install the mayor and council members beginning a new term in office at its Nov. 5 meeting. The council president and president pro tempore will be elected at that time.
