The new pedestrian crossing signal should be installed at the intersection of Overton Road and Oakdale Drive near the Cahaba River Walk by Wednesday afternoon, according to Public Works Director Ronnie Vaughn.

With the new signal, pedestrians walking to and from Cahaba River Walk will soon be able to safely cross the busy intersection.

Last week, construction crews extended the existing sidewalk to the road and added wheelchair accessibility. As a result of the sidewalk additions, they are also worked on the asphalt and made improvements on the storm drain under the road.

The pedestrian crossing signal will include a push button that pedestrians can use to signal that they want to cross.

Vaughn said that the new pedestrian crossing signal fits into the overall plan for Cahaba River Park by making it safer for pedestrians to access the new walking trails.
