Police chief becomes MDA Jailbird for charity

by

Mountain Brook Police Chief Ted Cook is going to jail for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

Cook is trying to raise $1,600 for his “bail,” which will then be donated to MDA. He has raised $500 as of Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Cook said he heard about the fundraiser through a few colleagues who participated in the past.

“I had seen some of my colleagues, chiefs in other parts of the state and country for that matter, that had participated in the past,” Cook said. “I think it’s a worthy cause anytime that we can raise funds to eradicate something as debilitating as [muscular dystrophy].”

The fundraiser ends next Thursday, Oct. 1, when Cook will be taken to the organization’s jail and post bail. Some have wondered if it’s possible to keep him “in jail” for longer, Cook said.

“Parts of my staff have inquired if we could have a separate fund to keep me in,” Cook said.
