Police report five thefts in community update

Mountain Brook police reported five thefts among other crimes in its Dec. 23 community update.

Police report an employee stole drugs from the 4400 block of Fair Oaks Drive between Oct. 13 and Dec. 17.

Another theft was reported by a business in the 2800 block of Cahaba Village Plaza. Between Nov. 9 and Dec. 19, a fraudulent purchase was made at the business.

The other thefts occurred to individuals. One woman fell victim to a phone scam when the caller told her she needed to send money to get her grandson out of jail. The call and scam occurred on Dec. 16, according to police.

One theft was reported after a package was stolen from a residence in the 10 block of Pinecrest Road. The theft occurred on Dec. 9, after the package was delivered.

Another victim reported jewelry was stolen from their residence in the 3800 block of Glencoe Drive between Nov. 1 and Dec. 20.

Police also reported multiple car break-ins in the community update.

A license plate was stolen from a vehicle in the 600 block of Brookwood Village on Dec. 19.

A gun was stolen from an unlocked car between Dec. 12 and Dec. 17. The car was in the 2000 block of Pumphouse Road at the time of the break-in.

In another car break-in, the suspect or suspects entered an unlocked garage in the 2800 block of Overton Road between Dec. 10 and Dec. 14. Jewelry was taken from an unlocked car in the garage. Police also categorized the incident as a burglary.

Between Dec. 13 and Dec. 14, another car break-in and burglary was reported. Police report an unlocked car parked in the driveway of a Hillsdale Road residence was entered. An unknown suspect then used a garage opener in the car to enter the residence’s garage and enter another unlocked car in the garage.

On Dec. 19, a victim reported an attempted burglary at her residence in the 4000 block of Old Leeds Lane. The victim reportedly saw someone attempt to get in her home through a window on a video.

A victim of identity theft realized someone used their identity to set up a Direct TV account in Pennsylvania, according to the update. The victim discovered the account through a credit check, and the account was set up between March 1 and Dec. 12.

Two hit and runs were also reported in the community update. In both instances, one on Dec. 18 and another on Dec. 22, the suspect hit a parked car and left the scene.

An incidence of criminal mischief was reported when a car window was broken in the 900 block of Crestview Drive between Dec. 20 and Dec. 21.

Someone attempted to obtain controlled substances on Dec. 22, according to police, by presenting an altered prescription in the 3100 block of Overton Road.
