A week after it was stolen at a Verizon store, Caroline Bailey’s wedding ring is back on her finger.

Late in the afternoon on Friday, June 13, Bailey received a call from the Mountain Brook Police Department saying that the woman who originally took the ring had decided to turn it in. Soon after, Bailey was reunited with the ring that she had worn every day for 28 years.

Bailey’s story caught the attention of local news media and was widely shared across Facebook. She believes this pressure and sudden notoriety caused the woman to have second thoughts and return the ring.

“I really felt like when it hit a week, I would never see it again,” Bailey said. “If I hadn’t had the coverage from the media that I did, there’s no way I would have the ring back.”

No charges have been filed against the unidentified woman so far. However, Bailey has learned her own lesson from the ordeal.

“I’m so thankful to get the ring back,” Bailey said. “I’m not going to ever take it off again, especially in a public place.”
