Street paving begins, includes some road closures

The City of Mountain Brook has contracted with Dunn Construction Company to resurface streets. The work began Monday, March 28. 

According to a post on the Police Department's Facebook page, the city's Pubic Works Department began on Vine Street from West Jackson Blvd. to Dexter Avenue. Vine Street and the adjoining parking spaces will be closed during the day for at least the first three days of the project. Residents are asked to pay close attention to traffic control and drive safely.

The Mountain Brook City Council approved the 2016 road paving list at its March 14 regular meeting. The list is comprised of more than 30 streets, drives, lanes and roads set to be paved this year.

Public Works Director Ronnie Vaughn said the list includes some of the areas the city receives the most complaints about. Vaughn said the scope of work will exhaust all the funds allocated for paving in this year’s budget.

“There’s never enough to get everything done,” said Vaughn, “but we will get as much done as we can.”
