Tavern restaurant could find new home in English Village

English Village could soon be the home of a recently closed Summit eatery. Owners of The Tavern on the Summit are in negotiations to relocate the restaurant to the current Park Lane facility.

The Summit location, which opened as a pub-style concept in 1998, closed in December when its lease expired. The new English Village location at 2117 Cahaba Road would be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. The building was the former location of Arman's restaurant.

Mike Mouron is currently under contract to purchase the Park Lane property, and The Tavern owners are in negations to lease the space, according to a request presented to Mountain Brook City Council for its March 24 meeting.

Restaurant owners applied for a conditional use application for a lunch time restaurant at the meeting. The Council discussed parking needs in the village from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and how a new restaurant might affect it. A parking survey conducted the previous weekend will better determine parking use, according to City Planner Dana Hazen.

Mouron said that the property under question is one of the few places in any village that has any parking on its own land.

The Council concluded to look further into the parking situation after the survey is released two days following the meeting.
