Three burglaries reported in community update

Mountain Brook police reported three burglaries in this week’s community update, including one instance related to the arson at the Crestline Piggly Wiggly.

Between Jan. 15 and Jan. 19, suspects entered a building in the 3700 block of Jackson Boulevard using force, according to the police report, and there was damage done inside. Investigators have identified four juvenile male offenders involved in the Jackson Boulevard burglary and the instance of arson at Crestline Piggly Wiggly.

Another burglary was reported between Dec. 13 and Jan. 16. A residence in the 2700 block of Carriage Place was forcibly entered, but nothing was known to be missing.

The third burglary occurred in the 3700 block of Rockhill Road. A back door was forced open, and a TV was taken from the house.

Three property thefts were also reported in the community update, including two instances of shoplifting from the 600 block of Brookwood Village, one on Jan. 15 and one on Jan. 18. The third theft was reported on Jan. 14 when two individuals were riding in a car and the passenger reportedly stole the driver’s phone from the car.

An instance of hit and run was reported at Whole Foods after a car was hit on Jan. 19 and the person who hit the car did not report it.

One victim reported receiving threatening messages via Snapchat between Jan. 13 and Jan. 14. Police reported this as an instance of harassment.

The fifth instance of identity theft in January was also reported in the community update. Police report on Jan. 13, a victim reported that three loans had been taken out in her name.

MBPD will offer a brief course in identity theft prevention. The course will be offered on Feb. 2 and Feb. 18 at 6 p.m., and it will cover how to prevent and deal with identity theft. The course will be taught at the Mountain Brook Board of Education building at 32 Vine Street.
