by

Fraud/scam

A Mountain Brook resident reported a phone scam where she received a phone call claiming her nephew was under arrest in Atlanta and charged with DUI. The caller said bond was $2,400 and told the resident not to talk to anyone else about the arrest. After the first call was ended, another person called and claimed to be a bond agent. They asked for $1,200 to be wired to the Dominican Republic to pay her nephew’s reduced bond. The resident realized this was an attempted scam and hung up.
