A Mountain Brook resident was arrested for attempted murder after reportedly trying to strike a Mountain Brook Police officer with a bayonet.

Police obtained warrants on Vanessa Hirschowitz, 47, on Sept. 9.

An officer saw an elderly woman walking along Brookwood Road on Tuesday, Sept. 8 around 1:30 a.m. He stopped to check on her and saw she had been the victim of domestic violence.

Officers then went to the victim’s home on East Briarcliff Road to search for a suspect in the assault, and Hirschowitz reportedly attacked one officer. The suspect had an 18-inch bayonet and tried to hit the officer in the head. The officer deflected the blow and sustained minor injuries.

Warrants for Hirschowitz are for attempted murder, domestic violence and resisting arrest. There is no bond at this time.
