Woman scammed with student loans

A Mountain Brook woman was the victim of a scam involving applications for student grants and loans.

On March 5, the victim was contacted by a person who claimed to represent The Federal Bank and was told that she would need to purchase a Moneygram and disclose to Federal Bank the reference number so that her loan could be approved and deposited in her bank account.

After a few days, no money had been deposited into her account. The victim then called the phone number she had been provided and was told she would need to purchase another Moneygram in order for the loan to be processed.

Even after this, no money was ever placed in her account.
