Three local bands are coming together for a benefit concert at Otey’s.

All proceeds from the concert, set for the last day of school before the holiday break, will go toward the music program at PreSchool Partners.

Kate and the Howlers is a five-piece group of Mountain Brook Junior High students. They won PreSchool Partners’ Crestline Rocks vote in 2014. Shane McMinn, father of two band members, said PreSchool Partners gave Kate and the Howlers their first shot at the big stage, and they wanted to find a way to give back.

Rockhill, winner of Crestline Rocks in 2015, and Wide Eyes will also play during the concert. The band members are all students from local schools.

Wristbands for the event are available for pre-sale and cost $8. Tickets will be $10 at the door.

McMinn said in addition to raising money for PreSchool Partners, he hopes students will become engaged with PreSchool Partners and choose to volunteer to help the 3, 4 and 5 year olds in the music program.

McMinn said he has seen how music helps his children and this event will help teach them to be “good corporate citizens.”

“I think it helps them, and it’s teaching them to pay it forward,” McMinn said. “All the parents in these groups are pretty good people. This is one of the life lessons and skills that we’re trying to teach these kids.”
