Birmingham conservation group chapter announces junior board

The Birmingham Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association of Alabama has brought on new junior board members.

The CCA Junior Board consists of sophomores, juniors and seniors from Mountain Brook High School who volunteer with the organization. The junior board also raises money in memory of Patrick Fritze, a former MBHS student and lifetime member of CCA who passed away several years ago. Funds raised go toward a lifetime membership that will be awarded in Fritze’s memory as well as reef balls.

Reef balls are designed artificial reefs that can be used to create fish habitats or scuba sites. The reef balls sponsored by the CCA will be built and sunk in the Gulf of Mexico by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. They will help create fish habitats in the future.

Last year, MBHS senior McKinnon Cox won the Patrick Fritze Memorial CCA Lifetime Membership. McKinnon has been active on the junior board throughout high school, and he is a fisherman and advocate of CCA.
