The Birmingham Zoo is offering free admission to all active and retired military, veterans and their dependents today through Wednesday, Nov. 11 in honor of Veterans Day. This year, the Zoo expanded the offer to include both veterans and their dependents.

Guests are invited to come and see the Zoo’s two rescued American black bears Barbara Ingalls Shook Black Bear Trail, experience up-close interactions with elephants at the Boma Yard in Trails of Africa and watch sea lion training demonstrations. For an additional cost, guests can ride the train and carousel.

In order to receive free admission, according to a Birmingham Zoo news release, guests must show proof of military service by presenting a valid military identification card, dependent identification card or driver’s license with veteran-designation on the front.
