Botanical Gardens to host final 'Flicks Among the Flowers,' other July events

Birmingham Botanical Gardens will wrap up its final Flicks Among the Flowers for the summer with a showing of “Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens” on Wednesday, July 20.

The screening will be held in the Formal Garden and guests are invited to dress as their favorite Star Wars characters to take part in a costume contest. Prizes will be awarded. Admission is free, but The Gardens encourages a $5 donation. The Gardens Cafe by Kathy G. will offer snacks and beverages for purchase. No pets are allowed.

Yoga with Lindsay – Join instructor Lindsey Barclift at the Gardens on Thursday in a new adult yoga class. Thursdays. 8:30-9:30 a.m. and 11:30-12:30 p.m. $5 Members, $7 Non-Members. 

CNPS: Mushrooms, Mycorrhizae, Magic and Madness: An Introduction to Mycology (elective) - This class will focus on the macrofungi, which include any type of fungal reproductive structure that is evident to the naked eye. Family Yoga in The Gardens - Enjoy this opportunity for healthy fun with the family in the gardens of Birmingham Botanical Gardens. This class will incorporate individual and partner yoga poses for strength and balance, plus breathing exercises to help foster calm and focus. The family craft for July will be an energy catcher. Memorable Images - This class is designed to introduce the student to basic concepts in photography and digital camera operations including: image capture, image transfer, image processing and image sharing. Birmingham Botanical Gardens Photo Talk – This group is not a class; it is a casual but informative venue for amateur to expert level photographers to come together to share their ideas, tips, advice, tricks and knowledge with each other. Botanical Beauty Secrets – Join Plant Adventures Program Specialist, Brooke McMinn, and Library Director, Hope Long, to learn which botanical ingredients are most effective for common summer concerns and create an array of products to take home. Thyme to Read Book Club – The book club will discuss the book "The Beekeeper's Ball" by Susan Wiggs on July 12. 6 p.m. 

Art Gallery – The work of the Crest Drive Glass Collective will be displayed throughout July and August. An artist reception will be held on July 8 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. with artists Gerda Carmichael, Anne Miller, Patti Steelman, Diane Tucker and Lynda Wilson.
