Brian McLaren to speak at Canterbury UMC

Canterbury United Methodist Church will host theologian, writer, and speaker, Brian McLaren to discuss “Emerging Christianity in a 21st Century World.”

The public is invited to attend and learn how McLaren believes the church will be changing in an effort to reach a new, and very different, generation. McLaren will offer his views on the Bible, the Christian identity and the Christian mission as they relate to our ever-changing society.

This is a Southern Progressive Alliance for Exploring Religion (SPAFER) event and is intended for all Christians who are trying to understand what it means to live out their faith in today’s modern society. 

McLaren will speak in three sessions at Canterbury UMC between Sept. 19 and 20. The first, "Reading the Bible in a 21st Century World" will start on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. On Sept. 20, the second and third sessions, "Christian Identity in a 21st Century World" and "Christian Mission in a 21st Century World" will start at 9 a.m. and last until 12:30 p.m.

Full Weekend All 3 Lectures: $50

Members of Canterbury United Methodist Church - Full Weekend: $35

Friday Night Only Lecture: $25

Saturday Morning Only Lectures: $25

Free for college students with a valid ID.

This will be the first event in a series of three to be held at Canterbury this fall, featuring authors of national prominence. Also scheduled are Becca Stevens on Oct. 1 and Rachel Held Evans on Nov.16.
