Garden Club hosts thank you event

The Off Shoots Garden Club hosted an event Tuesday evening to thank those that purchased holiday trees in support of Deck the Hood.

The young and young-at-heart had the chance to make reindeer food bags for children to leave in their yards on Christmas Eve for Santa’s hard working reindeer.

The event was hosted at the home of Christina Powell, who co-chaired the tree sale. Powell and fellow co-chair Sally Hartley Williams said the club sold 250 holiday trees—doubling their sales from last year.

“Even though we might be small, we’re mighty in what we can do to bring the community together,” Powell said.

There was also the opportunity for children and parents to make ornaments for their newly purchased trees. Williams said purple and gold ornaments were designed to honor the memory of Sid Ortis.

Items on the reindeer food bar included gluten-free breadcrumbs and frying powder—items that looked very similar to things Powell and Williams recently cleaned out of their kitchen cabinets.
