A large crowd turned out in Mountain Brook Village on a cold but sunny afternoon on Sunday, Dec. 11 to enjoy the music and floats that were part of the city’s annual Holiday Parade.

The parade began at Office Park and made its way down Cahaba Road — where a large crowd of adults and children lined both sides of the street — before turning on Culver Road and Petticoat Lane.

Mountain Brook’s new mayor, Stewart Welch, rode near the head of the parade in a classic car.

Santa Claus made an appearance, riding on a truck with the Mountain Brook Fire Department before posing for photos at the end of the parade on the main stage.

There was a variety of live entertainment booked by Mason Music, including some musicians and singers — some of whom performed while riding on a pick-up truck and trailer in the parade.

The parade also featured such icons as the Birmingham Barons mascot and Maggie the Mayfield Cow.

Mountain Brook resident Steve Shea contributed one massive float that made its own snowflakes.

Local schools provided a marching band, choral groups and dance teams.

Originally scheduled for Dec. 4, the parade had been delayed a week due to the threat of rain.

The event has typically drawn about 2,400 people, according to Suzan Doidge of the Mountain Brook Chamber of Commerce.
